Welcome us back!

Sleeping Giant Hemp is back in business! Nearly two years ago we made the decision to greatly reduce our festival adventure after a great and wonderful eight years. Sleeping Giant Hemp Company LLC began in 2015 at the CT Folk Fest and Green Expo. We like to think we opened people's eyes to the value of hemp, even before it was legal to grow it in this country.

Like most everyone, we wanted to have a more robust website, thus this poor excuse. It has been quite the learning curve to get this far. We will continue our online hemp-fiber journey while reviving our festival business.

Throughout our 10 years we have been advancing advocacy around sustainability and mindfulness when purchasing clothing. Upcycling, thrifting, the concept of fast fashion, relative merits of different fibers, social justice, and environmental justice are just some of the concepts we espoused years before these concepts reached the mainstream. We have learned about GOTS certification and Fair Trade, along with just how toxic it is to produce the textiles we take for granted. The process of creating clothing and textile accessories -- fiber, dyeing, manufacturing, distribution, sales, resales, disposal -- has the potential for toxicity and exploitation. Most clothing ends up in a landfill, where it can last for decades and even centuries.

We have gotten to know many people in the hemp fiber industry, and our blog will certainly include their progress and commitment to bringing hemp-fiber products into our lives.
